Calculate speed, distance or travel time, with results in km/h, mph, m/s, knots and running pace.
Speed = distance ÷ time. Running 10 km in 50 minutes is 12 km/h (7.46 mph), a pace of 5:00 per km. Rearranged, distance = speed × time and time = distance ÷ speed.
The Speed Calculator solves the classic speed–distance–time triangle. Choose what you want to find and enter the other two. The result is shown as speed in km/h, mph, m/s, knots and ft/s; as distance in kilometres and miles; as time in hours, minutes and seconds; and as running pace per kilometre and per mile.
Use it for planning journeys, checking an average speed, working out a run or cycle pace, or converting between speed units. For converting speed units alone see the Units Conversion Calculator; for car trips see the Mileage Calculator.
All inputs are converted to metres and seconds, solved, and converted back.

Average speed is total distance divided by total time — not the average of two speeds. Driving 60 km at 30 km/h and then 60 km at 60 km/h takes 3 hours for 120 km, an average of 40 km/h, not 45.
Divide distance by time. 10 km in 50 minutes (0.833 hours) is 12 km/h.
Multiply speed by time. At 100 mph for 2.5 hours you cover 250 miles.
Divide distance by speed. 100 km at 60 km/h takes 1 hour 40 minutes.
Multiply km/h by 0.621371. 100 km/h is 62.1 mph.
Multiply by 3.6. 10 m/s is 36 km/h.
The time needed to cover a kilometre or mile, written as minutes:seconds. A 5:00 per km pace is 12 km/h.
One nautical mile per hour, about 1.852 km/h or 1.151 mph, used at sea and in aviation.
Divide the total distance by the total time, including stops if you want your overall average.
