Estimate how tall a child will be as an adult from the parents' heights, and convert between feet/inches and centimetres.
Estimates adult height from the parents' heights. Add the child's age and current height for extra comparisons.
Useful for infants or when planning ahead — shows the estimate for both a boy and a girl.
| If the child is | Estimate | Likely range |
|---|---|---|
| A boy | ||
| A girl |
Convert between feet and inches and centimetres.
Average the parents' heights, then add 6.5 cm for a boy or subtract 6.5 cm for a girl. Parents of 162 cm and 176 cm: about 175.5 cm for a boy and 162.5 cm for a girl (range ±8.5 cm).
The Height Calculator estimates how tall a child is likely to be as an adult. It uses the parents' heights, which are the strongest simple predictor, because height is largely inherited. You can also add the child's age and current height for a couple of extra comparisons, check the estimate for both a boy and a girl using only the parents' heights, and convert between feet/inches and centimetres.
Treat the result as an estimate, not a promise. Nutrition, health, sleep and the timing of puberty all influence final height, and a child can finish well above or below the figure. More detailed clinical methods — such as bone-age X-rays or the Khamis–Roche method — need measurements or reference tables that this tool does not use. If you are worried about a child's growth, speak to a paediatrician.
This calculator uses the long-established mid-parental height method, plus the doubling rule for toddlers.

Average the parents' heights, then add 6.5 cm for a boy or subtract 6.5 cm for a girl. For parents 162 cm and 176 cm, the estimate is 175.5 cm for a boy and 162.5 cm for a girl, within a likely range of about ±8.5 cm.
It is an estimate. Most children land within about 8.5 cm (3.3 in) of the mid-parental figure, but nutrition, health and puberty timing can move the result. Bone-age assessment by a doctor is more accurate.
(Mother's height + father's height ± 13 cm) ÷ 2 — add 13 cm for a boy and subtract 13 cm for a girl. It is the classic Tanner formula used for a quick target height.
A boy's height at age 2, or a girl's at 18 months, multiplied by two gives a rough adult height. It is quick but less reliable than methods using the parents' heights.
Weight is used by some clinical methods, but this tool uses the parent-based and doubling methods only, which do not need it.
Girls typically stop growing at about 15 and boys at about 18, although growth plates close at different times for different people.
Yes. Switch “Units” to US to enter feet and inches. Results are always shown in both centimetres and feet/inches.
Both parents contribute roughly equally on average, which is why the formula uses the average of the two.
Yes — use the “parents' heights only” calculator, which shows the estimate for both a boy and a girl.
Convert to inches (5 × 12 + 10 = 70) and multiply by 2.54: 70 × 2.54 = 177.8 cm. The converter on this page does it for you.
