Compare four ideal-weight formulas for your height.
Devine formula: men 50 kg + 2.3 kg per inch over 5 ft; women 45.5 kg + 2.3 kg. For a 175 cm man the four formulas average 70 kg.
Ideal-weight formulas were created in the 1960s to 1980s, mostly to help doctors dose medicines, and they are still widely quoted. This calculator applies the Devine, Robinson, Miller and Hamwi formulas to your height and sex and shows them beside the healthy BMI range.
The formulas ignore muscle, frame size, age and ethnicity, so treat them as rough benchmarks, not goals. The Healthy Weight Calculator and BMI Calculator give more current, range-based guidance.
The calculator applies the standard published formulas step by step.

An estimate of the weight expected for your height and sex based on historical formulas.
None is a measurement. Devine is the best known; Robinson, Miller and Hamwi give slightly different results.
They are still used in medicine for dosing, but for general health the BMI range and measures like waist size are more informative.
The formulas add weight per inch over 5 ft, so they become unreliable for very short heights. The calculator stops below about 4 ft 6 in.
