Quick answer: how a lease payment is calculated

Payment = depreciation + finance charge + tax. A ₹15,00,000 asset with a 55% residual, ₹1,00,000 down, 8% rate over 36 months costs ₹23,700.00 a month.

Overview of the Lease Calculator

A lease charges you for the part of the asset's value you use up, plus a finance charge. This calculator takes the price, residual value, down payment, trade-in, fees, rate and term and splits the monthly payment into depreciation, finance (rent) charge and tax.

A higher residual value means lower payments, but you own nothing at the end unless you buy at the residual. Compare with buying using the Loan Calculator; for cars see the Auto Lease Calculator.

How We Calculate

The calculator applies the standard financial formulas step by step.

  1. Net capitalized cost = price + fees − down payment − trade-in.
  2. Residual value = price × residual %.
  3. Depreciation fee = (net cap cost − residual) ÷ months.
  4. Finance fee = (net cap cost + residual) × money factor (APR ÷ 2400); add tax on the payment.
payment = (cap − residual) ÷ n + (cap + residual) × (APR ÷ 2400)

Lease Calculator — Frequently Asked Questions

How is a lease payment calculated?

Monthly depreciation (cap cost − residual ÷ months) plus a finance charge on the average of the two, plus tax.

What is the money factor?

The lease's interest rate expressed as a small decimal; multiply by 2,400 to get the APR.

What is residual value?

The estimated value of the asset at the end of the lease, set in advance as a percentage of the price.

What is capitalized cost?

The price the lease is based on, after fees, down payment and trade-in.

Is leasing cheaper than buying?

Leasing often has lower monthly payments but no ownership at the end. Compare the total cost, not only the payment.

What happens at the end of a lease?

You return the asset, buy it at the residual value, or start a new lease — check for mileage, wear and early-termination charges.

How is the lease calculator calculated?

It uses the standard formula: payment = (cap − residual) ÷ n + (cap + residual) × (APR ÷ 2400) The full method and a worked example are shown on this page.

Is this financial advice?

No. The calculator gives estimates for planning and learning. Real offers vary by lender, product and date, so confirm the details with your bank, lender or a qualified adviser before deciding.

Can I use another currency?

Yes. The maths is identical in any currency; only the currency symbol shown in the results differs.

Is my data stored?

No. Everything is calculated in your browser and nothing you enter is uploaded or saved.
