Calculate your grade point average from course credits and grades — by semester, with an optional prior GPA and a target GPA planner.
Add each course with its credits and grade. Use the settings to switch between letter grades, percentages or point values, add semesters, or include a prior GPA.
| Semester | Credits | GPA |
|---|
| Course | Credits | Grade | Grade points | Credits × points |
|---|
Find the average GPA you need in your remaining credits to reach — or stay above — a target GPA.
Multiply each course's grade points by its credits, add them, then divide by total credits. Example: A (4.0) in 3 credits and B (3.0) in 4 credits = (4×3 + 3×4) ÷ 7 = 3.43 GPA.
The GPA Calculator works out your grade point average — the credit-weighted average of your course grades. Enter each course's credits and grade, and the calculator multiplies every grade's points by its credits, adds them up and divides by the total credits. It also lists a full report, GPA per semester and a cumulative GPA, and includes a planner that shows the average GPA you need in future courses to hit a target.
Use Letter for A–F grades, Percentage if your marks are out of 100, or Point value if your school already gives grade points (for example a 10-point CGPA scale). Grades of P, NP, I and W are ignored because they carry no grade points. Everything runs in your browser; nothing you enter is stored.

GPA is a weighted average: courses with more credits count more.
| Course | Credits | Grade | Grade points | Quality points |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mathematics | 4 | A+ | 4.3 | 4 × 4.3 = 17.2 |
| Physics | 2 | B | 3 | 2 × 3 = 6 |
| English | 3 | A | 4 | 3 × 4 = 12 |
| Total | 9 | — | — | 35.2 |
| GPA | 35.2 ÷ 9 = 3.91 |
| Course | Credits | Grade | Grade points | Quality points |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Biology | 4 | B | 3 | 4 × 3 = 12 |
| Chemistry | 3 | C | 2 | 3 × 2 = 6 |
| Chemistry Lab | 2 | A | 4 | 2 × 4 = 8 |
| Total | 9 | — | — | 26 |
| GPA | 26 ÷ 9 = 2.89 |
Schools differ, so check your institution's scale. This calculator uses the common plus/minus scale below. Percentages are first converted to the matching letter band.
| Letter | Percentage | Points (A+ = 4.0) | Points (A+ = 4.3) |
|---|---|---|---|
| A+ | 97–100 | 4.0 | 4.3 |
| A | 93–96 | 4.0 | 4.0 |
| A− | 90–92 | 3.7 | 3.7 |
| B+ | 87–89 | 3.3 | 3.3 |
| B | 83–86 | 3.0 | 3.0 |
| B− | 80–82 | 2.7 | 2.7 |
| C+ | 77–79 | 2.3 | 2.3 |
| C | 73–76 | 2.0 | 2.0 |
| C− | 70–72 | 1.7 | 1.7 |
| D+ | 67–69 | 1.3 | 1.3 |
| D | 63–66 | 1.0 | 1.0 |
| D− | 60–62 | 0.7 | 0.7 |
| F | Below 60 | 0.0 | 0.0 |
Many Indian boards and universities report a CGPA out of 10. To get a weighted CGPA, choose Point value and enter each subject's grade point and credits. Converting a CGPA to a percentage depends on the institution; CBSE's official multiplier is 9.5.
| CGPA | Approximate percentage |
|---|---|
| 10 | 95.0% |
| 9.5 | 90.2% |
| 9 | 85.5% |
| 8.5 | 80.8% |
| 8 | 76.0% |
| 7.5 | 71.2% |
| 7 | 66.5% |
| 6.5 | 61.8% |
| 6 | 57.0% |
| 5 | 47.5% |
Other universities use their own formulas — always confirm with your institution before using a converted figure on an application.
Multiply each course's grade points by its credits, add the results, and divide by the total number of credits. For example, A (4.0) in a 3-credit course and B (3.0) in a 4-credit course gives (4×3 + 3×4) ÷ 7 = 3.43.
GPA usually refers to one term or semester; cumulative GPA (CGPA) averages all terms so far. Some Indian institutions also use SGPA for a semester and CGPA for the overall result on a 10-point scale.
No. Pass, not pass, incomplete and withdrawal grades have no grade points here, so they are left out of the GPA and their credits are not counted.
It depends on the school. Many US schools cap A+ at 4.0; others give 4.3. Use the “Letter scale” setting to match yours.
Yes. Choose “Percentage”. The calculator converts each mark to a letter band (for example 93–96 = A) and then to grade points.
Choose “Point value”, then enter each subject's grade point (for example 8.5) and its credits. The result is the credit-weighted CGPA out of 10.
Tick “Add prior GPA”, then enter your previous GPA and the credits already completed. They are combined with the courses you enter.
It finds the average GPA you must earn in your remaining credits so that your overall GPA reaches the target. If the answer is above the top of your scale, the target cannot be reached with those credits.
It depends on the school and goal. On a 4.0 scale, 3.0 is often considered solid, 3.5 and above strong, and many competitive programmes and scholarships look for 3.7 or higher.
No. The GPA Calculator runs entirely in your browser — course names, credits and grades are never uploaded or stored.
