Loading the tool…
To blur an image, add your photo, choose 'The whole image' or 'Only areas I draw', pick Blur or Pixelate and the strength, and press Apply. To blur a face or plate, draw a box or ellipse on the original image. The effect is created in your browser; nothing is uploaded.
Blur a whole picture, or hide just the parts you choose, such as faces, number plates and personal details. Draw rectangles or ellipses, soften the edges, or invert the selection to keep one area sharp. It is a free tool from Websolindia, a New Delhi website design and SEO company that builds fast, image-optimised websites.
Unlike most online image tools, this one does not upload your pictures. Your browser decodes each image, applies the edit with our own pixel code and shows a live preview before you download. You can process up to 30 images at a time and download them one by one or together as a ZIP.
Once your image is ready, you may also want the Remove Image Background Online, the Change Image Background Color or the Square Image Cropper Online. All of our free image tools are listed in the Image Editing Tools Online collection and the Websolindia Image Converter.
Use this table to choose settings with confidence.
| Strength | Result | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| 5–15 | Soft focus | Gentle softening |
| 20–40 | Clearly blurred | Backgrounds, faces at a distance |
| 50–100 | Heavy blur or large blocks | Hiding identity or detail |
This is exactly what happens to your image, with no hidden step. You can check that nothing is uploaded by watching your browser's network tab while you use the tool.
| Step | What happens |
|---|---|
| 1. Read and decode | The image is decoded and its orientation applied. |
| 2. Choose the effect | Blur uses a Gaussian approximation made of three box-blur passes with σ = shorter side × strength ÷ 800. Pixelate averages square blocks of size shorter side × strength ÷ 400. |
| 3. Build the mask (area mode) | Each rectangle or ellipse becomes a 0–1 mask with an optional soft edge; the 'except' option inverts it. |
| 4. Blend | result = blurred × mask + original × (1 − mask) per pixel, so the effect fades smoothly at the edges. |
| 5. Encode | Saved in your chosen format and quality. |
| Setting | Default | Choices | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
| What to blur | The whole image | The whole image; Only areas I draw (faces, plates, details) | |
| Effect | Blur | Blur; Pixelate | |
| Strength | 20 | 1 to 100 | Blur radius or block size, relative to the image size. |
| Area shape | Rectangle | Rectangle; Ellipse | |
| Blur everything except the areas | Off | On / Off | |
| Soft edge | 4 | 0 to 30 | |
| Save as | Same as the original | Same as the original; PNG (keeps transparency); WebP (smaller, keeps transparency); JPG (smallest for photos) | |
| Quality | 92 | 1 to 100 | Used for JPG and WebP output. 85–92 suits most images. |
| What | Formula | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Blur radius σ | shorter side × strength ÷ 800 | Scales with the picture size. |
| Pixel block | shorter side × strength ÷ 400 | Minimum 2 px. |
| Blend | blurred × m + original × (1 − m) | m is the area mask, 0 to 1. |

Choose 'Only areas I draw', then drag a rectangle or ellipse over the face on the original image. Add as many areas as you need and press Apply.
Not always. Light blur can sometimes be partly reversed, especially on text. Use a high strength, pixelate strongly, or cover the region with a solid colour block for sensitive information.
Blur smooths detail; pixelate replaces each block with its average colour. Pixelate with large blocks is better for hiding identity.
Yes. Draw the area and tick 'Blur everything except the areas'.
Whole-image blur, yes. Area blur needs you to draw on each photo, so it handles one at a time.
No. The dimensions stay the same.

No. New files are created from the pixels, so camera details, GPS location and other embedded metadata are not copied. Keep your originals if you need that information.
Up to 30 images per batch and 150 MB per image. Images above roughly 120 megapixels are declined with a clear message rather than freezing your browser.
