To convert WebP to JPG online, add your WebP files above, choose a quality (88 to 92 suits most images), press Convert and download the JPG files. Transparent areas are filled with a background colour, and animated WebP files convert their first frame. Nothing leaves your browser.
Convert WebP images to JPG so they open in every program, upload to every platform and print at any shop. It is the quickest fix when a website saves a picture as WebP and your software refuses to open it. It is a free tool from Websolindia, a New Delhi website design and SEO company that builds fast, image-optimised websites.
Unlike most online converters, this tool does not upload your images. Your browser decodes each WebP file, converts it and creates the JPG file on your own device. That keeps private photos private, avoids upload waits and keeps working on a slow connection once the page has loaded. You can convert up to 50 files at a time and download them one by one or together as a ZIP.

This table compares the two formats so you can decide whether converting is the right move.
| Feature | WebP | JPG |
|---|---|---|
| Full name | WebP (developed by Google) | JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group) |
| Origin | Released by Google in 2010 | Standardised in 1992 |
| Compression | Lossy and lossless | Lossy |
| Transparency | Yes, in both lossy and lossless modes | No transparency |
| Animation | Yes | No |
| Colour depth | 8 bits per channel | 8 bits per channel (24-bit colour) |
| Typical file size | Usually smaller than JPG or PNG | Small for photographs |
| Best for | Website images where speed matters | Photographs and images with many colours |
| Browser support | Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari 14+ (all current browsers) | Every browser, app and device |
| File extension | .webp | .jpg, .jpeg |
File size: JPG files are often a little larger than the WebP they came from, since WebP compresses more efficiently.
This is exactly what happens to your file. Nothing is hidden, and you can verify that nothing is uploaded by watching your browser's network tab while you convert.
| Step | What happens |
|---|---|
| 1. Read the file locally | Your browser reads the file from your device into memory. Nothing is sent to a server. |
| 2. Identify the format | We check the file's first bytes (its signature) instead of trusting the extension, so a PNG renamed to .jpg is still handled correctly. |
| 3. Decode the WebP to pixels | The image is decoded to raw red, green, blue and alpha pixels using your browser's built-in WebP decoder. |
| 4. Resize (optional) | If you set a maximum width, larger images are scaled down with an area-weighted filter. Images are never enlarged, and the proportions are always kept. |
| 5. Flatten transparency | JPG cannot store transparency, so each pixel is blended with your chosen background colour: result = colour × α + background × (1 − α) for every channel, where α runs from 0 (transparent) to 1 (opaque). |
| 6. Encode the JPG | The pixels are written out as JPG using your browser's JPEG encoder, using the quality you set. Metadata such as camera details and location is not copied. |
| 7. Report the result | We show the dimensions, the sizes before and after, and the change: (new size − original size) ÷ original size × 100. For example, 500 KB becoming 350 KB is −30%. |
| Setting | Default | Range | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
| Quality | 90 | 1–100 | Higher gives a sharper, larger JPG. 85–92 suits most photos. |
| Background colour | White | Any colour | Fills transparent areas, since JPG cannot store transparency. |
| Maximum width | None | 1–20,000 px | Scales larger images down. Never enlarges. |
| What | Formula | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Size change | (new − original) ÷ original × 100 | Shown for every file. Negative means smaller. |
| Transparency | colour × α + background × (1 − α) | Per colour channel; α from 0 to 1. |
| Downscale factor | min(1, maximum width ÷ width) | Applied only when you set a maximum width; never above 1. |
| Quality | Passed to the encoder as a number from 1 to 100 | The scale is encoder-specific, so the same number gives different results in different formats. |
Speed depends on your device and the image size. In our Chrome tests on a desktop-class processor, a 6-megapixel photograph took about 2 seconds to convert to WebP or PNG. AVIF is the slowest: about 2.5 seconds on Fast and about 7.5 seconds on Balanced. Phones and older laptops take longer, and images over about 120 megapixels are declined rather than risking a frozen browser.
| Format | Where it opens | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| WebP | Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari 14+ (all current browsers) | Website images where speed matters |
| JPG | Every browser, app and device | Photographs and images with many colours |
| This converter | Current Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari. Needs JavaScript | Private conversion on your own device |
WebP files are smaller than JPG or PNG, so sites use them to load faster. Browsers show them fine, but some editors and upload forms still do not accept the format.
Slightly, in theory, because JPG compresses again. At quality 90 or above the difference is rarely visible. For no further loss, use the WebP to PNG Converter Online instead.
The transparent pixels are blended with your chosen background colour (white by default), since JPG has no transparency. Use the WebP to PNG Converter Online if you need to keep transparency.
Only the first frame is converted, producing a still image. Animation is not kept in JPG.
WebP is designed to compress better than JPG, so the same picture usually needs more bytes as a JPG. Lower the quality slightly if size matters.
Yes, with the JPG to WebP Converter Online. Converting repeatedly between lossy formats will gradually reduce quality, so keep your original file.
Yes. It is free, needs no sign-up, adds no watermark and has no daily limit. You can convert up to 50 WebP files in one go. It is provided by Websolindia.
No. Your WebP files are read and converted inside your browser, on your own device. They are never sent to Websolindia or anyone else, which is why this converter is safe for private photos and documents.
Yes. The new file is created from the decoded pixels, so camera details, GPS location and other embedded metadata are not copied. If you need to keep metadata, use a desktop editor.
Up to 50 files per batch and 150 MB per file. Images above roughly 120 megapixels are declined with a clear message rather than freezing your browser.
Current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari.
