To make an image background transparent, add your image, choose 'Remove one solid colour' for logos and plain backgrounds (click the image to pick the colour) or an AI method for photos, adjust the tolerance and press Apply. You download a PNG with transparency. Nothing is uploaded.
Turn a white or solid-colour background into transparency in one click, or let the AI handle photos. Ideal for logos, signatures, scans and product pictures that need to sit on any colour. It is a free tool from Websolindia, a New Delhi website design and SEO company that builds fast, image-optimised websites.
Unlike most online image tools, this one does not upload your pictures. An open-source neural network is downloaded to your browser once and then runs on your own device, so your photos are never sent to a server. You can process up to 30 images at a time and download them one by one or together as a ZIP.
Once your image is ready, you may also want the Remove Image Background Online, the Change Image Background Color or the PNG Image Compressor Online. All of our free image tools are listed in the Image Background Change Tools collection and the Websolindia Image Converter.
Use this table to choose settings with confidence.
| Tolerance | Removes | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| 1–5 | Only almost exactly that colour | Clean digital graphics |
| 6–15 | Close shades (recommended) | Logos, scans, JPG artwork |
| 16–30 | A wider band of similar colours | Slightly uneven backgrounds |
| 30+ | Large range; may eat into the subject | Last resort |
This is exactly what happens to your image, with no hidden step. You can check that nothing is uploaded by watching your browser's network tab while you use the tool.
| Step | What happens |
|---|---|
| 1. Read and decode | The image is decoded to RGBA pixels. |
| 2. Measure the colour distance | For each pixel we compute the distance to the colour you picked: sqrt((r − r₀)² + (g − g₀)² + (b − b₀)²) ÷ 441.67, a value from 0 to 1. |
| 3. Turn distance into transparency | Pixels within the tolerance become transparent; the outer part of the tolerance fades smoothly so edges are not jagged. |
| 4. Soften (optional) | Edge softness blurs the alpha channel by a few pixels. |
| 5. Save with transparency | The result is saved as PNG or WebP. |
| Setting | Default | Choices | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
| Method | Remove one solid colour (logos, plain backgrounds) | AI — any photo (fast, 4.6 MB model); AI — better quality (44 MB model); Remove one solid colour (logos, plain backgrounds) | |
| Colour to remove | #ffffff | Any colour | Click the original image to pick the colour. |
| Colour tolerance | 12 | 1 to 60 | Higher removes more shades close to the colour. |
| Cut-out strength | 12 | 0 to 60 | Raise it to remove faint leftovers around the subject. |
| Edge softness (px) | 1 | 0 to 8 | Softens the cut-out edge so it blends naturally. |
| Save as | PNG (transparent) | PNG (transparent); WebP (smaller, transparent) |
| What | Formula | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Colour distance | √((r−r₀)² + (g−g₀)² + (b−b₀)²) ÷ 441.67 | 0 = identical colour, 1 = opposite corner of the colour cube. |
| Alpha | 0 inside 65% of the tolerance, rising to 1 at the tolerance | Smooth fade; the 65% inner band is fully transparent. |
| Component | Role | Where it runs |

| U²-Net + ONNX Runtime Web | Optional AI cut-out | Your browser |

Choose 'Remove one solid colour', keep white as the colour (or click a white area of the image), and press Apply. Raise the tolerance a little for JPG sources.
Edge pixels blend the subject colour with white. Increase the tolerance slightly or raise the edge softness.
The colour method removes that colour everywhere. If the subject contains it, use the AI method or reduce the tolerance.
The AI methods. Colour removal is for flat backgrounds. See the Remove Image Background Online for the AI workflow.
PNG for the widest support, or WebP for smaller files. JPG cannot store transparency.
